Do you have to attend an interview?
In some cases yes, you will be required to attend an interview with one of the Canadian Immigration authorities. It will be expected of you to participate in an interview if there are any questions of uncertainty in regards to the genuineness of your relationship.
What happens if you need an interview?
It is not required but it is always a good idea to look into hiring an immigration specialist that can ensure that you are as prepared as possible for the interview. The interview is your chance to prove that not only do you want your family to be in Canada together but also to show that your relationship with the person sponsoring you is legitimate.
By hiring an immigration representative this will allow you to be at ease with the proof that you will need to show. They will have the ability to go over all of your documentation and give you a taste of the questions that may be asked of you.
What are some of the question categories that will be asked if you have to attend an interview?
There are several questions that you should be prepared to answer in order to help prove the genuineness of your relationship in question. Some of the questions could be, but not at all limited to:
Information about you and your family:
- Explain a little bit about who you are as a person and a sponsor
- Where you live
- Do you rent or own the place that you are currently living
- Are there any children that you have, if so where are they living
- If there are parents that are currently living with you
- Are you currently married, single, engaged, etc.
- If you answer yes to any of the above relationship statuses you may be required to answer how long you’ve been married, or when you are planning to marry
- You may have to answer whether or not you have been married before
- You also me be required to rate yourself in terms of your language ability
- How well does the person/people you are wanting to sponsor speak English
- Is there any trouble that you have been in with the law – this will include if you have ever been reported, charged, arrested etc.
- Are you supported in the move to come to Canada
- Do you have any other family in Canada
- You also may be asked what your plan would be if your immigration application was rejected
Job Qualifications:
- Where you are currently working
- What position are you currently holding at your job and what’s involved and expected of you
- Whether you are working full or part-time
- How long have you been working for the company
- If you have the access to references you may be asked to give their information
- What education you have completed
- You may be asked about how you feel you are doing in your current position
- What reasons you have behind leaving your current job (if applicable to you)
- Whether or not you feel like you have the ability and qualifications to find a job in Canada
- If you are planning to continue anymore education once you come to Canada
Financial:
- How much are you currently making at the job that you are at (if applicable)
- Are there any other sources for income that you may have- if so you may be asked how much you are earning from them
- You may be asked exactly how much money that you have (in a bank account) – it may be required of you to show bank statements
- If there are any other assets that you may have in your possession – if you do have other assets you will be asked what they are and how much they may be worth
- You may also be asked that if your application was approved to come to Canada whether or not you plan to sell your assets before coming
What you know about Canada:
- How much you know about Canada
- Anything that you have heard about Canada
- You may be required to know the Prime Minister of Canada at the time of your interview
- The capital of Canada and how many of the cities/provinces you can name
- It may also be required that you know who the premier of the province you plan to settle in is
Immigrating to Canada:
- Exactly why you are wanting to leave your current country to come to Canada, and why you are choosing Canada above anywhere else
- Whether or not you are prepared for all the challenges that come along with moving to a new country
- What your expectations of Canada are
- What city/province do you plan to settle in and why? Do you have friends or family there?
- If you are going to have any assistance from friends and family once you move. If not you may be asked how you plan on supporting yourself before you are able to get a job and how long the funds you have would last
- How you plan on finding a job once you are in Canada
- Where you plan to see yourself in 5-10 years
