Spousal sponsorship is where you who is a permanent resident or Canadian citizen can apply to have your spouse immigrated to Canada. Those that are considered under spousal sponsorship are your spouse, and common-law partner or conjugal partner. What factors to consider before applying?
If you were also sponsored you are still able to sponsor your spouse but you must wait for about five years before you can apply. The five years begins after you have received your permanent resident status. You have to consider whether you will be able to financially support the sponsored immigrant. You will need to provide proof that you are established and that you can financially support yourself and the sponsored immigrant. You must also meet the required living needs of the sponsored immigrant. You also have to consider whether you have sponsored a relative in the past. If you have sponsored a relative in the past and failed to meet the requirements, this could raise a red flag against your application. You will then need to provide documents to show proof that there are changes in your financial circumstances.
Sponsor and Applicant responsibilities
As a sponsor you must make sure that they meet the sponsorship eligibility requirements and complete the undertaking and the sponsorship agreement. You must respond to self-declaration schedules. You will need to include bank receipts to show that all fees are paid. Make sure that you properly fill out and submit the permanent residence application form. Also submit all supporting and required documents along with your application.
