Around the beginning of September 2019, Samira Saborit, a concerned daughter called us on behalf of her mother, Jimena Gabarra. Samira proceeded by telling us her mother’s immigration situation. She was a permanent resident in 1981, but flew back to her country of citizenship, Spain; therefore she was unable to meet her residency obligations due to family obligations. Samira wanted to discuss options available for her mother to come back to Canada permanently.

Samira discussed with our representative that while Jimena was in Spain fulfilling her family obligation, her husband passed away suddenly and she tried coming back to Canada but she could not because her PR card had expired already. They have been trying to find a way in which their mother could come back to Canada but no one gave them any promising solution. She booked a consultation to speak with one of our legal representatives and they informed her that the best course of action to take is to apply for a permanent resident card renewal with humanitarian and compassionate considerations.

Samira hired a few days later and we immediately proceeded with handling her case. We kept in consistent communication with Samira about Jimena’s application over email; Samira preferred this as she travels a lot for work. We were able to submit the mother’s application within a few months after getting all the necessary documentation. We were able to submit a few months after hiring.

Within four weeks of submitting Jimena’s application, we received the first communication from Citizenship and Immigration Canada. A few weeks after getting the first communication we received communication from CIC about Jimena Gabarra PR card renewal application. It was approved. Jimena was now able to reunite with her children permanently in Canada.
